New Fresh News Theme

I like it!!

I had an older version and had no idea what I was missing! Because of the framework vulnerability, I updated the theme. There are many nice, new features for it. I LOVE the ability to back up all the customized theme settings, what a wonderful feature. Styling the blog is so much easier. I remember the days when I used to have to hack into the CSS code, try a few things and hope for the best. Now, all you do is select from a list! It’s just incredible. I’m very pleased. And there are SEO settings, too, although I have to learn what many of these do. For each post, there are other choices to make all links in the post “no follow” and set the page so that it is not indexed in the search engines. Sweet! There are multitudes of other little trinkets and a href=”http://bajulimports.com/”>charm bracelets added in. I wish I had more time to look into them… I’m still catching up after the massive website hack and have been a bit overwhelmed with other things.

I’ll probably be posting a lot of my finding (both on the new theme and on how I resolved the hacking problem) on my tech blog, TheOlderGeek.com. But first… I have to rebuild the site. Ugh.

Not So Nifty

Looks like my previous beautiful WordPress theme is having problems. Due to a vulnerability in the code, I was instructed by the theme creators to update the theme manually… so I did. And the manual didn’t work. :-p The theme creators are having massive security and technical problems, all the while leaving us totally exposed to hackers.

Unbelievable.

Making DVD Labels

It’s been a looooooong time since I made a CD or DVD. I used to backup my computer data using the software, but with the advent of USB drives, external hard drives and, thankfully, online backup service, I don’t often make disk copies. I used to have stacks and stacks of CDs and DVDs filled with old computer files! I still have them, many of them dating from 2000! Some stuff is important, like baby photos (VERY important!) while other stuff is probably very dated (like the old sales receipts from purchasing motorcycle seats for Christmas gifts…).

I used to be so creative with the labels, too. I’d use these fancy label-making software programs and create swirly, colorful, creative labels. I’d print them out on these special round disk label stickers. Oooooo, the price of it all makes me shudder! The CDs, the labels, the printer ink…. *ouch* Nowadays all you have to do it grab a USB drive for $10.

Well, the other day I decided to make some DVDs. I had some terrific Creation Science videos on the computer that I wanted to transfer to DVD. I no longer have those pretty round label stickers and no longer have the expensive colorful printer ink (my printer is a black and white thing now!). What to do? I found a very cool program called LightScribe from HP. (This is not a sponsored post for HP!). It came free with the HP computer. You have to buy special “etchable” DVDs but the cost is not much more than the regular disks. The program is SO COOL!!!! It etches your design and text onto the DVD surface, permanently. No stickers, no ink, no degradation of the DVD from certain inks and stickers… I’m impressed. So I made a ton of DVDs, lol. And, like any good (old) computer user, I backed up my computer data on DVDs. Just in case. ;)

Stretching Your Memory

A pal of mine just recently memorized the epistle of James in the Bible. She is almost 60 years old, what a wonderful way to keep the mind sharp and active! My kids have memorized James, also…. but I haven’t. I am terrible at memorization. I can’t believe I even used to be a theatre [...]

I Love a Fresh New Look

Did you know that I run a travel blog? Yes, indeed! I actually run a couple of them! It’s actually a lot of hard work because I must constantly maintain all these blogs (the technical end) as well as add fresh content and photos regularly. Because I do many other things also, I let “little [...]

Experimenting With Coffee

Weelll… after a string of weird sinus headaches, I finally realized what was causing them. Dunkin Donuts coffee! It happened every time I went through the drive thru to get coffee, or when I purchased the coffee beans at the store and made it myself. There’s something in it that bothers my sinuses and gives [...]

What a Cool WP Theme!

Ooooh, I found this amazing theme! I’ve been looking for a nice magazine theme for my “info” sites, and I finally found a good theme! It’s Solostream WP-Smooth (at solostream.com). Yes, it cost money, but it was not expensive at all ($39, and I can deduct it as a business expense). I really like it! [...]

And the Pile Grows Higher

well. I’m sure busy. Seriously, I am! April has been frantic. Full of appointments, more appointments, paperwork, taxes, appointments…. not to mention all the usual stuff I have to do around here (working the job, cleaning, cooking, schooling, yard work….). Unfortunately, some tasks are going by the wayside right now. Namely cleaning and cooking and [...]

Hosanna Integrity Music on YouTube!

Hoh boy, did I find a jewel!!! I found Hosanna Integrity music online! Here’s the Army of God tape. I found it quite by accident. I was singing an old, old song (I can’t believe I remembered all the words) and did a search online to see if I could find it. In searching, I [...]
